British Women: Beatrix Potter





Helen Beatrix Potter was an English writer and illustrator, born in 1866 in London in Kensington, was the daughter of a lawyer living esclusivamante inherited annuities rarely practiced the profession. Beatrix wrote the first story was titled "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" and began what would become its own peculiarities, or writing illustrated letters to children. Con le pubblicazioni arrivò anche l'amore, si inammorò dell'editore Norman Warne: il matrimonio non era ben visto dai genitori di Beatrix poichè non volevano che la figlia sposasse "un uomo che doveva lavorare per vivere", la scrittrice però decise ugualmente di sposarlo ma questi morì pochi mesi prima del matrimonio; lei si sposò poi, all'età di 47 anni, con il suo avvocato William Heelis. Dopo il suo matrimonio Beatrix acquistò un terreno nel Lake District dove si trasferì e dedicò il resto della sua vita alla campagna e all'allevamento ma non solo:c on il re ddito from The Peter Rabbit Books was able to buy and manage land for the National Trust. His gift to the land he loved was to help preserve it for future generations.
